CEMETERY URN Urn of blood Review

CEMETERY URN (Australia) – Urn of blood
CD 2007 – Modern Invasion Music
8 tracks - 31'29
Rated: 8/10
CEMETERY URN is the kind of band that makes my zine worth existing; the band features many great names of the Australian underground but that's not our main concern here, go on Metal Archives for that. We have pure death metal here, at least the way I consider it to be as intended: dirty, rotten, dark, brutal, heavy (this heaviness can remind early BOLT THROWER) and with low vocals, in the traditional 90's US death metal. I target here the early recordings of INCANTATION and IMMOLATION of course. CU assimilates the US style and turns it into some Australian death metal with the particular drum-style you can hear in bands like ABOMINATOR or DESTRUKTOR. CU adds some thrashy parts (à la POSSESSED) and manages to spawn a hellish death metal album. Nothing original though but you can't deny the soul catching effect.
The tracks are short, with many evil sounding guitar riffs and this is here the main force of CU: they are able to create this uncomfortable, dark and malevolent aura all along this half-an-hour of death metal. And all those fucking great lead guitars, how some bands can miss such important things in metal? Here these leads are developping the mood in such way it could make the Swedish death metal bands jealous.
You understand this release must be in any death metal collection.
