CRUCIFIX Threnody of the crucifix Review

CRUCIFIX (Denmark) – Threnody of the crucifix
CD 2008 – Aural Offerings Records
12 tracks - 43'31
Rated: 6,5/10
Despite the fact that CRUCIFIX was born in 1993, this is just their first album after a handful of demos. Better late than never some may say, so what this record has to offer? I'm usually quite satisified with the death metal scene from Denmark with good bands like INIQUITY, CORPUS MORTALE, ECITON, DOWNLORD, EXMORTEM, PANZERCHRIST (although their use and abuse of keyboards are sometimes upsetting for my ears!), etc... CRUCIFIX could join the league easily with their interesting satanic and brutal death metal. They have the same intensity shared with EXMORTEM (the plastic drums as well) but CRUCIFIX thought it could be intelligent to add slower parts or breaks to prevent the listener from boredom. A major point with this instense release is the fury unleashed by CRUCIFIX than can remind the best days of DEICIDE or I would compare CRUCIFIX to the US band DISINTER. They have some good tracks like « Behind the veil of illusion » (ironically their slowest song) « The cleansing storm » (even if the opening riff reminds me a another's band's riff!) but not enough to achieve a killer release though. CRUCIFIX has still to improve the songwriting, the musical mastery and brutality are here but instead of killing the priest, put the crucifix straight in the nun's cunt.
