LUCTIFERU interview 2006

Sharing the “4 tormenting ways to death” with BLOODY SIGN, CROMB and MORTICIFY, I was quite interested by LUCTIFERU stuff. Their satanic death metal, even if not innovative, is well played in pure 90’s death metal style. André Martins (drums) gave us few words about his band.

-Infernal hails! Introduce your horde to the readers! Is LUCTIFERU your first band or do some members play in other bands actually or before?
The LUCTIFERU is a band who makes extreme metal, always trying to innovate but without losing the characteristics of the bands who in had influenced them.
I (André) and Arildo played in a band calls VERTEBRA. After some exchanges of formation we decide to lock up the activities. After this I enter in the CARCINOSI. Some years later we decide to mount a new band who today is the LUCTIFERU.

-What’s the meaning of your name LUCTIFERU? Where does it come from?
Name LUCTIFERU is a word of the Portuguese vocabulary that it means: what cause I fight or calamity.

-You appears in the “4 Tormenting ways to death” released by GRUFT production. How do you get in touch with this label? Your songs came from your 1st demo, am I right? What do you think of the bands involved?
The contact with the Label was good and enters in a well fast agreement. You are right; its music are of our first Demo "Lightning The Unholy Flame".
I liked them sufficiently involved bands. I think that all are in good level.

-You play a hellish death metal that can be described as a mix of old MORBID ANGEL and old KRISIUN. Are there any others influences? I like your stuff because you’re not always playing blast beat parts; on the contrary you add slower parts to give contrast. Will these particularities appear on your next releases?
We like of BEHEMOTH, DEICIDE, MARDUK..., but in we do not only arrest them to the Death/Black. We hear Thrash and Heavy Metal.
Involuntary is a characteristic that we acquire, perhaps for the fact of our influences if not to restrict only to the Death/Black.

-How is the scene of Porto Alegre? Do you know the following Brazilian bands? OPHIOLATRY, CORPSE GRINDER, REVEAL DECAY, NAUSEOUS SURGERY, BLASTER PAIN… Some other bands to recommend?
There are good bands here, but as in the remaining portion of Latin America, this sounds not yours its so recognized value as she happens in the Europe. Therefore many bands if create and soon they disappear due to support.
Bands with Nephast and Rebaelliun unhappily they had finished.

-Does LUCTIFERU play often in Brazil since its beginnings? How are the conditions for gigs? Any troubles with authorities?
We made some shows, also in Uruguay, but at the moment we are in concentrating in the writing of the record. Soon it will be finished, lack to make right only some details. Until today never we had problems with the authorities and we wait not to have.

-What are the ways of promotion that help spreading your music (web, fanzines, compilations…)? How is the Brazilian underground doing? Are you into tape/CD trading?
Generally through contacts with email, ordering CD or through the site. At this moment we stop the spreading until finishing the writing.

-What are your convictions toward occultism and Satanism? Don’t you think it’s been used and abused by opportunist bands as entertainment?
I find that you this certainty. Many bands use this type of image to shock the people, only that today this is something exceeded. Our letters reflect the side black, bad of the things and it does not become attached the personages created by the bible.

-What’s your opinion regarding the international scene and its evolution? Nowadays music loses its importance and people only care of the name of famous studios or producers, it sucks!
Today it is easy you to make a faster sound due to the resources available for the studios. It can be masked imperfections or be reproduced parts of musics without same the musician to have touched. This is sad therefore is trying to deceive the listener. But it can have certainty that these bands do not go far therefore do not have ability.
