INFIDEL Killing for immortality Review

INFIDEL (US) – Killing for immortality
CD 2006 – Grim Nocturnal Records
10 tracks – 31’26
Rated: 5/10
It seems the US death metal scene doesn’t consist only of brutal death acts copying DEVOURMENT and DISGORGE. Some bands remain attached to some classic death metal close to the 90’s period. INFIDEL is influenced by this era but injects some old school brutal death metal touches though. They have these obvious IMMOLATION, INCANTATION, DEICIDE influences they mixed with second zone ones (or let’s say more confidential ones) like DIABOLIC, PESSIMIST or IMPRECATION.
The result is some conventional satanic death metal with this particularity that they don’t hesitate to piss on Islamism as well. This is certainly more adventurous than these millions of black metal bands “fighting” against the now moribund Christianity. This said, INFIDEL is nevertheless far to reach high expectations. Musically, it’s ok but nothing to help Ben Laden to get out of his cave to attack the US. The whole album has a crude but quite good sound with a dirty primitive production, far from the actual polished productions. It contrasts with the drums that sound too plastic: the triggered snare drum is absolutely awful and became unbearable while listening “Killing…” When blasting it sounds closer to a machine gun than real snare drum, in my opinion it doesn’t fit INFIDEL’s raw music. Not a bad debut, INFIDEL has definitively some weapons to kill upon command however they have to go above the average to become more than a simple satanic death metal band.
