TORN APART Craving pale flesh Review

TORN APART (Sweden) – Craving pale flesh
MCD 2007 – Pathology Explicit Recordings
4 tracks – 14’26
Rated: 5/10
Third release of Pathology Explicit Recordings that may remind you the name of a zine dedicated to brutal death and grind hailing from Spain. I don’t know if the zine is still active however the label’s activities aims at spreading brutal music a bit in the way of several American labels like Sevared Rex or Goregiastic Rex.
This is my first contact with a release from PER and I didn’t know what to expect from TORN APART. The Swedes aren’t into some slamming brutal death metal but are more into some old school brutal death and that’s fine with me. No trace of any Gothenburg infection detected as well, another good point for TORN APART, so it starts pretty well, so now let’s dig the grave deeper.
TORN APART drains influences from both European and American scene, more in a virulent way with evil guitar riffs reminding the early DEICIDE and more thrashy attacks à la MALEVOLENT CREATION. The band uses a low and heavy sound from the European school as if UNLEASHED and BOLT THROWER decided to jam together after a boozed party.
But to be honest if everything is well performed and if a dark mood can be detected, this MCD doesn’t catch the attention, nothing really remains after listening to it. Probably because some parts are common and that there is a lack of highlight in these four tracks. Nothing bad though but TORN APART must propose something more solid and asskicking to really impress and stand apart.
