SHUB NIGGURATH / NECROCCULTUS split 2008 review

SHUB NIGGURATH (Mex) / NECROCCULTUS (Mex) – Inverted dimensions
Split Tape 2008 – Black Vomit Records
11 tracks
Rated: 3/10 – 7/10

Two respected Mexican death hordes belonging to different generations. This split tape gathers on one side two old rehearsals from SHUB NIGGURATH recorded in 1990. So do not expect some kind heavy/death metal, no SHUB NIGGURATH was at that time some bestial raw death metal bathing in blasphemy and chaos. Hard to distinguish anything in this messy distorted and obscure magma where fury is the only aim. Taking in consideration the recording tools they could use at that time SHUB NIGGURATH was at the eve of the death/black metal way they choose to follow after. Even their TERRORIZER cover is hard to recognize. Not essential but some stuff for the die-hards curious to hear the beginning of what SHUB NIGGURATH was.
The other side of blasphemy contains some more enjoyable stuff for me. NECROCCULTUS is without any doubt one of the best death metal act from the infernal Mexican pit actually. I love their ultra dark INCANTATION alike death metal. NECROCCULTUS kept the heritage of early INCANTATION and unleash a, let’s say, more exotic version they have this magic primitivism and sinister melodies that make their tracks fascinating to those feeling well in obscurity. Their split part owns 4 rehearsal tracks recorded in studio and 2 live tracks. The rehearsal tracks unfortunately have nothing new and came from their LP and EP, but they were recorded in early 2006. The sound is good, so why not getting it if you don’t know NECROCCULTUS? The live tracks have also a decent sound (recorded in 2007), a bit chaotic in the fast parts but I have heard worst live stuff.
