REEK Zine #1 review

REEK Zine #1 (Denmark)
Summer 2009
40 pages A5 – English written
Nice putridely looking zine worshiping the old death metal and its new wave. The advantage of this rag is that you need a good beer and your favorite Swedeath record to read through it.
So as stated, Reek Zine is a death metal zine where the editor Peter talka about his craze of old school death metal and Swedish please or at least Swedish sounding (interviews with MAIM, MIASMAL, TRIBULATION and FATALIST give you the state of mind of Reek Zine). Also you can read about SHACKLES and Nuclear Winter Records (the best intie in my opinion). This foretaste can seem good but the interviews are rather short (too short) and the questions are too common; maybe Peter fear to shake the brainpulp of his interviewees?
Some reviews about albums, demos & zines are spattered here and there, mostly positive views, Peter reviews what he likes, but crushing some shitty stuff is sometimes cool and relaxing, he should try...
The whole layout is the best point of Reek Zine, clear but old school, maybe a bit too clean xeroxed printing but I like it. Some space good be gained with more content. So here you have a first issue, a promising try. Next time if the questions are deepened, I bet you would hold a kick-ass rag. The passion is here, a bit more guts and insanity, and why not a bit of diversity, there are so many death metal bands around?
