CIRCLE OF DESTRUCTION Zine #17 review

CIRCLE OF DESTRUCTION Zine #17 (US)
March 2009
62 pages A5 – English written

Circle of Destruction was created in 1995 by its editor Nur Ein Tier and stopped in 1999. In 2008 the zine was exhumed and seemed to be released regularly since then. Its editor is helped in his task by four other contributors who also wrote reviews and interviews. And here you have a worthy cut & paste zine where passion is the main concern. Not that you hold here the ultimate zine, but the guys feature stuff and bands they really dig, so you don't read through a vulgar promozine with beautiful ads.
Even if I'm not too much into the editor's tastes (I barely didn't read the black metal inties with BLODFEST, REVERIE, SEPULCHRAL CRIES or MOONCULT) and didn't read at all the inties with GUINEA PIG or BONE FRAGMENTS. My main interest was more into the several zines' interview which are the highlights of COD Zine as I think we don't give enough space to them in zines generally. And here you don't waste your money as the rag's editors tortured are: Deadly Illness Zine, Mental Funeral Zine, Cunt Paste Zine, Zapisnik Zine /AVR label, Iron Hammer Zine, Antihuman Terror Zine... The chats are quite cool and fortunately when the guys are talkative it worths the reading as the amount of questions rarely goes up to ten or over, that's my main reproach. Probably the number of inties compensate their shortness coz you also can read about AANAL BEEHEMOTH, XANADOO, SLAUGHTER COMMAND, KOWLMOON WALLED CITY, UMRATTAWILL and Christophe Bailet who wrote the “Total France Metal” book (personally I don't give a shit as French heavy metal is just but a joke to me...).
Another good point is the appearance of many small articles about books (Vargsmal, A-Z of black metal, Lucifer Rising... the editors didn't hesitate to bash as those writings are more sensational easy-cash earning than real investigation. Articles about horror/gore movies (Guinea Pig, Nekromantik 2, …). Article about the great Silent Hill videogames.
The usual reviews of zines, CD, demos, etc.. not too many but really underground stuff.
COD Zine is a good rag with enough underground substance to quench the most picky metal freak. There is a lot to read as each time I open the zine I find something I didn't care before, so you're really advised to get a copy.
