FOEDUS AETERNUS Zine Phase 13
March 2009
48 pages A4 – French written
Foedus the 13th, the bodycount continue... Almost every year, our three psychopathic editors (Unholivier, Ennemi & Mriik) come back with their new death list. Covering anything from the UG metallic actuality of the year concerned, the guys gathered articles, reviews and interviews of what is supposed to be the things that need interest...or not! The whole lay-out and set up of the zine itself always makes me angry and makes me aware that I will remain an eternal beginner in graphic design, I curse you Olivier!! But the most important stays the content, and with FAZ you're almost sure to read through some detailed fucking interviews that surely will quench your thirst of metallic science: ARGHOSLENT, ARTILLERY, TERRORAMA, DISKORD, AFTER DEATH, HAVARAX, VASSAFOR, OBEISANCE, and a dozen more.
You can read something different from the stupid average satan worshipper who can only knows about the number of nails he owns on his bracelet... I mean that the inties are usually deepened to a fan point of view with interesting questions. I'm usually more into the chats directed by Olivier because we share some metallic tastes whereas Mriik is more into black metal bands that rarely make me want to slit my wrists.
The reviews are numerous and into every possible format, and they are written in a quite stylistic way, using puns or word plays, it's sometimes really a personal point of view with surprising marks to some usually well-rated releases like for example the DEAD CONGREGATION's album rated 4/10. The reviewer really gave an interesting point of view, which is not completely wrong I must admit.
The thing that makes FAZ differing from the usual printzines is the feature of small articles written by the editors (about a Christmas metal compilation, about the actual thrash metal revival, about the integrity of a label like Suffering Jesus Prod, about Niklas Kvarforth who is to my viewpoint just an impostor and an asshole, etc...). Live reports are described as well with an enjoyable cynical Ennemi.
So once again a good issue, maybe shorter than the previous ones, but with undeniable qualities. Still the best French fanzine and probably for a long time. I advised foreign people to grab an issue just to look through the great lay-out and the possible will to learn French language after that.
