Here's my first American zine, I guess fanzine making is less and less spread out there, so I'm glad to get this one via trading with Tony the editor. Another good point is that Tony seems to enjoy death metal & grind, and in addition to this he also features bands that I never heard before, so Reborn From Ashes Zine probably fits the musical tastes of the usual Putrefactive readers, ahah!
Coming with a glossy cover and a clear and simple lay-out (done with Word software I guess), 2 or 3 columns, for the most comfortable reading even with a dozen beers in the guts, let's dive into its putrid pages. As said before, Tony presents bands almost unknown (at least to me!) like ACRANIA, HARDWARE, EXTINCTION CEREBRAL, CARDIAC ARREST / SEVERED, EXHUMATION (from India), DEMOLITION, ATOXXXICO, or more known like OATH TO VANQUISH to some well known old underground acts like TOXODETH or CIANIDE. This last one being the less exciting as Mike answers quite shortly. The other chats turn out cool as the guys play the game of the interview and introduce the readers into the band in an enjoyable way (TOXODETH, CARDIAC ARREST, …).
The same goes for the reviews where Tony described the CD, demos, EP, zines or DVD which are also rated out of 10 (the lowest being 3/10 and the maximum being 10/10, maybe too many high rated stuff, but it's always a matter of appreciation though...
A particularity of the zine is the fact you find many stuff, bands featured (TOXODETH, ACRANIA, EXTINCTION CEREBRAL, etc...) or zines from Mexico or Spain, and that's mainly due to the South American roots of Tony.
A really cool zine with a fan state of mind. The third issue is still out.
