Totally unknown to me until I got send this demo (except few flyers I saw here and there) VOW DREAMS started in 1997 and released various demo and play a kind of horror/black metal. Weird stuff which I’m not used to deal with, this demo started with a long gloomy introduction, even if some parts are badly linked, one can feel a Fulci alike grisly atmosphere, a bit what the band ENOCH (US) did on their “Graveyard disturbances”. Then the music really started with an arpeggio and then some heavy/black metal with occult ambiances with screams, haunting chants and female vocals. This can remind early CRADLE OF FILTH, MORTUARY DRAPE or even some DENIAL OF GOD nonetheless VOW DREAMS comes with a poor sound especially during the fast and aggressive parts. The depressive melodic parts are ok, probably the most achieved moments of this demo. The particularity of VOW DREAMS are their multiple changes along the tracks: fast black metal parts then melancholic ones, strange riffs, occult ambient parts, etc... The worst is probably the drum programming sound that simply sucks and wastes the music. Not bad stuff but some arrangements shall be reworked even though the band as some potential in the way of creating dark atmospheres.
