MESOCRANIO A saga pagã Review

MESOCRANIO (Brazil) – A saga pagã
Demo CD 2008 – Self released
8 tracks – 29'16
Rated: 3/10

Third demo for this Brazil based trio practicing some death metal with black and heavy touches. Created in 1998, I expected a confirmed band but this demo owns so many mistakes, it's really hard to not bash it.
MESOCRANIO wants to instigate some occult mood in their, fist with an ok intro, then adding keyboards in some tracks, and honestly speaking, this is probably their worst idea. It diminushes the agressive side of the music which is not helped by the really too common riffs. They are not bad but they are so uncatchy and lame.
The second weak point, are all these awful solos ans guitar leads that sound wrong; hey guy, try to be in the right tone or check that your guitar is well tuned, because that sucks really!!!
Third negative aspect is the demo production that is not completely shitty but it uses to saturate on low frequences, a thing that can happen for a first demo, but this is the third one!!
The two last tracks came from their first demo tape « Holocausto » that sounded more basic and bestial death metal but definitively more convincing than « A saga pagã » demo. Reminds me some early MASACRE stuff.
Even if the blasphemous packaging is cool, the music itlself is too mediocre. MESOCRANIO tried to follow a more melodic path but finally killed its music.
