BLOODY SIGN Explosion of elements Review

BLOODY SIGN (Fr) – Explosion of elements
CD 2007 – Ibexmoon Records
9 tracks – 45’00
Rated: 8/10

Here it is, the second album of BLOODY SIGN can be considered as a milestone in the French underground death metal. “Vana vigala loits” set a basis of what they were able to do and defined their dark death metal or at least what it would become later in this second album. “Explosion of elements” is the affirmation of their past work with an improved progression in songwriting, musical mastery and emotion. The tracks are just perfect in structure, that means they are not too technical and at the same time not too basic. The band feels easy on high speed tempos but as well on slowdowns but before all the use of dissonant twisted riffs create really insane dark atmospheres today newcoming extreme bands shall learn from: death metal is not only based on blast-beats speed or the lowest guitar tuning. This is not something you only listen but also something you must feel, absorb or whatever you do with it, it’s hard to describe.
This album is the inheritance and dedication of early 90’s death metal: MORBID ANGEL, VITAL REMAINS, INCANTATION, SADISTIC INTENT, IMMOLATION, PESTILENCE, etc…
Their cover of MASSACRA is a complete achievement as they play it in their own way; the intro in put like a bridge in the middle of “Apocalyptic warriors”, a really personal interpretation.
Probably the best French actual death metal act but the fact they are out of the French metal stream doesn’t help the band to get the success they deserve.
