HAIL OF BULLETS promo 2008 review

HAIL OF BULLETS (Ned) – Promo S/T
Demo CD 2008 – Self released
4 tracks – 20'49
Rated: 6/10

A new project with Martin Van Drunen featuring Ed Warby and various other mercenaries from the Dutch scene was enough to create a state of excitement or at least an ounce of curiosity from the freaks into ASPHYX or PESTILENCE early works.
First the sound of this promo clearly shows that HAIL OF BULLETS is not here just for figuration; this is not something released after a boozed party in the rehearsal room just for fun. The band has the ambition to kick the asses of all those young lads trying to recapture the old feelings of death metal and follow the recent stream of old school death metal.
Musically, HAIL OF BULLETS is some powerful old school death metal into war themes, rather close to ASPHYX. The war thematic created by the band can also remind PENTACLE last album, but you can also check into the BOLTTHROWER side for the powerful impact of the sound. The band also introduces some more guttural vocals on “Ordered eastward” done by Dan Swano, a pity that it is just a guest appearance, the band could have exploited this pattern more in other tracks just to distinguish a bit more from ASPHYX. Because, here is the major reproach one can state, this resemblance with ASPHYX is a bit disappointing, as well as the lack of guitar solos. Not bad but a more affirmed personality would be more judicious.
