VIRAL LOAD Hillbilly whore hackin' revival Review

VIRAL LOAD (US) – Hillbilly whore hackin’ revival
MCD 2007 – Sevared Records
5 tracks – 17’38
Rated: 6/10
VIRAL LOAD is among the very few bands using drum machine I can bear because Shawn Whitaker’s songwriting and guitar playing are impressive. This guy is probably the best guitar player in the Texas brutal death metal (even in US brutal death metal generally) because he doesn’t play brutal shit for the sake of brutality but he always looking for interesting, intricate, brutal and efficient stuff always in a matter of well balanced (putrefactive) effect. Surely the mechanical and soulless side of the drum machine doesn’t help to appreciate “Hillbilly…”, but some may be glad to know that this is the last recording with drum machine as Shawn finds a suitable and motivated drummer.
Since the previous release “Backwoods bludgeoning (sick hicks from the sticks)”, VIRAL LOAD took a more technical and brutal path than the early stuff of the band “Practitioners of perversion” and “Brutalized beyond belief” which were more basic and slamming brutal death metal oriented. Some slam parts remain but are mostly used to vary the music.
On this MCD you also can find two covers of DEATH “Defensive personalities” and OBITUARY “Godly beings”; I think purists will scream forth blasphemy but honestly they are well played and respectful (don’t expect the tracks being drowned in blastbeats!).
