BALMOG EP 2007 review

BALMOG (Spa) – Nausea
EP 2007 – Bloody Prod
2 tracks – 11’00
Rated: 7/10

BALMOG was spawned in late 2003 with the aim of playing pure black metal. After two demo recordings, here is their first EP “Nausea”: their bio wasn’t wrong as the trio is into traditional black metal in the Norwegian way.
On the contrary to black metal newcomers or other ridiculous bedrooms black metal bands, BALMOG didn’t use a fuzzy to hell guitar grain. The whole production is even pretty good and powerful. On the end you get a freezing and dark mixture of black metal with a crystal clear guitar sound displaying a storm of coldness as well as desperate melodies. Their remind me the early releases of SATYRICON and some DARKTHRONE (for the vocals) but their way of playing their black metal is not far from what TAAKE did on their two first albums.
A convincing EP recommended to fans of the 2nd wave of Norwegian black metal.
