THE BOTTLE DOOM LAZY BAND demo 2007 review

THE BOTTLE DOOM LAZY BAND (Fr) – The beast must die
Demo CD 2007 – Self Released
4 tracks – 40’41
Rated: 6/10
The defiance towards real musicianship took its place in the reunion of five individuals who share common tastes in doom music with the addition of diverse alcohols and narcotics and THE BOTTLE DOOM LAZY BAND was finally born. Four fucking tracks, 3 ones very long and a smaller piece, were their very firsts offers to the godz of doom, obviously named BLACK SABBATH, CATHEDRAL and PENTAGRAM (US).
Avoiding the copycat of the unholy ones evoked, TBDLB kept the primal side of early CATHEDRAL as well as their funeral heaviness, put some rocking parts, a bit of effects for the psychedelic side and here you have TBDLB.
TBDLB doesn’t care of musical conventions: that means that if it happens you try to count any tempos, you could have some surprises as TBDLB is a band that works on feeling and improvisations. That means that in live situation, their tracks won’t have the same length or structure as well as the singer’s reaction regarding his alcohol consumption.
Their primitive doom metal has some good moments for sure but the too much repetitive parts can lead you to hang yourself high if you doesn’t own a good bottle of whiskey (and give Bottleben a drink, you will be gratefully thanked!). His voice is clearly Blues influenced and deteriorated by alcohol and smoke abuses, however he sometimes uses more extreme screams, after all he’s the beast.
The last track features some bagpipes and increase the funeral mood of the band and I really hope they will keep this particularity in the future. Hallowed be thy doom.
