EMPTYDEMIC DEGREE demo 2007 review

EMPTYDEMIC DEGREE (Fr) – Demo 2007
Demo CD 2007 – Self released
5 tracks – 13'24
Rated: 4/10

Waow, it’s quite unusual to hear French lads practicing the art of ultra brutal death metal. This Parisian gang offers this first demo showing what they are able to do in term of sonic depravity. Very brutal due to the incessant drums pounding, sometimes really impressive in terms of speed. The guttural gory vocals, not really original but impressive, are in the pure US vein like the mighty DEVOURMENT. These are the standing-out weapons of EMPTYDEMIC DEGREE.
The negative point of this demo is definitively the guitar grain which very fuzzy and messy. With the addition of the drums it sounds like a hammer drill symphony. Of course the guitars are low tuned, but it’s damned hard to catch the riffs especially during the fast parts. It’s all right when EMPTYDEMIC plays slamming parts but when they reach speedy parts it’s a following of chaotic blasted holocaust that would make technical metal fans die violently of a heart attack (as well as nice sound lovers). They remind me a lot of INTERNAL SUFFERING “Supreme knowledge domain” earth quaking album (low frequencies used to saturate to death on this release!).
