Ah, finally Csaba Poller the editor released a second issue of DEADLY ILLNESS two years after the previous and that was worth waiting. Yes, for this second issue, Csaba compiled a good bunch of interesting chats with mostly death metal bands, but a certain kind of death metal, that means old school death metal free of experiments or better said of any modern attempts. A good point though. A bit like if Csaba read into my mind to feature great acts such as ABOMINAT, DISKORD, LIE IN RUINS, EXCORIATE (I didn’t know them before but I have the will to check them for sure), HATESPAWN, DEATH BREATH, CATALESPY, GOREPHILIA (ex GORETEXX) plus some cool readings with CRUCIFIST, ANAAL BEEHEMOTH and OBSKURE TORTURE (of whom you could read a short bio in the previous issue, this time you have a full intie). The interviews turned out to be interesting and informative, the editor knows to ask well written questions, far from the usual modalities.
Another good point is the presence of reviews in this issue, with CD, EP, demos and zines, mainly focused on the underground actuality but not only as you can read reviews of older shits like a PHLEGM demo from 1991 for example or a CHEMICAL BREATH CD from 1992. It lacks of negative reviews, at the same time why wasting room with shitty records? The lay out is also quite sober and could be improved with more putrid remains but that’s my personal point of view. Recommended for any underground freaks hungry to discover pearls from the abyss. The next issue is supposed to be released somewhere at the end of 2008 and will contains less death metal and more diverse styles, probably thrash metal, black metal or whatever.
