EMPHERIS promo 2006 review

EMPHERIS (Pol) – Tales from crematoria / Promo 2006
EP/CD 2006 – Self released
3 tracks / 4 tracks – 10’23 / 13’04
Rated: 3/10 – 6/10

Here is an obscure combo from polish underground born in the mid 90’s. EMPHERIS is dedicated to 80’s and early 90’s form of thrash metal with blackened touches. The Teutonic influence is the most obvious with early works of KREATOR and SODOM.
The “Tales of crematoria” EP is the less interesting with a poor sound as well as uninspired tunes and a cover of BATHORY “In conspiracy with Satan”. A quite disappointing discovery of EMPHERIS music I must say.
Then the promo came with a better and sharpened sound showing some really good ripping thrash metal riffs the way it should be. The tracks as well are far more aggressive and there is a nice search of catchiness between the songs. I mean you find some fast tunes like “Antichrist” and “Nihilistic black metal” and you can found a more mid paced song like “Bloodwrath” that got a killer chorus heavy riff. Sometimes they sound closer to early SLAYER but keeping the screamed vocals à la KREATOR.
Those tracks are built in a catchy manner where you can remind and shout the title tracks. Nothing groundbreaking but the efficiency is here.
