LAETHORA March of the parasites Review

LAETHORA (Swe) – March of the parasites
CD 2007 – Osmose Productions
10 tracks – 38’48
Rated: 8/10

This album is a good surprise, indeed, who can think that this band composed of some members of THE PROVENANCE plus a member of DARK TRANQUILITY would record a brilliant death metal release like this. If LAETHORA is rooted in the old school death metal they didn’t follow the path of bands such as KAAMOS, REPUGNANT, VERMINOUS and the likes, they keep they Swedish touch though but I found them more US death metal oriented with bands like DEICIDE or MORBID ANGEL in their early works. The voice of Jonatan Nordenstam is more deep and guttural oriented with a little try in clear vocals in “Black void remembrance”.
The tracks are usually built on quite traditional structures but the catchy side of the music is more efficient on the slowest tracks like “Impostors” or “The scum of us all” which are awesome in their funeral, creepy and obscure vibes by the used of clear guitars or slight keyboards. If LAETHORA is old school influenced, “March of the parasites” has a personal approach of death metal with progressive arrangements and vocal effects that bring a bit of freshness without sounding too modern.
A good release showing that it is still able to remain interesting in death metal today.
