ABOMINAT Storms of calamity Review

ABOMINAT (Nor) – Storms of calamity
7”EP 2006 – No Posers Please
4 tracks
Rated: 7/10

Let’s investigate a bit more the frozen ground of Norway. After the discovery of DISKORD, I got to know that drummer Hans Jørgen Ersvik used to release 7 inches with his own label No Posers Please. ABOMINAT is the second one and presents us some death metal in the direct vein of SUFFOCATION as stated on flyers. In the direct vein is far from the truth as ABOMINAT is playing the same stuff as SUFFOCATION did on “Effigy of the forgotten”. The amazing sound resemblance as well as the way of singing reminds a lot about this opus.
Well just being a copy would be unsatisfying so ABOMINAT is also quite competent in suffocation-like song-writing as the opening track “Ascending demise” is a kick ass track featuring the best patterns of what SUFFOCATION did on “Effigy…”.
So would I just talk about a copycat? Hmm it would be too fast summed up.
ABOMINAT keep high the old style of SUFFOCATION, so I enjoy this way of playing but what I enjoy the most is the absence of triggered drums; that means that ABOMINAT has a pure and brutal sound. The tracks even if not original, are well built and offer some good moments. If you get any interests in what’s written above, just get it.
Let’s wait for a longer release to judge ABOMINAT’s potential, let them integrate their influences and unleash a more personal deflagration of death metal.
