ASMODEE EP 2007 review

ASMODEE (Fr) – Black drop journey
7”EP 2007 – Mankind’s Demise Records
3 tracks
Rated: 7,5/10

The most underrated or misunderstood band from France offers this EP before an upcoming third album. What’s wrong with this band? Well ASMODEE is neither totally black metal neither death metal, plays a rather technical blend of both genre that repulses fans of each camps: too much technical for the basic black metal fan and too much black metal for the death metal freak. But for someone not too much demanding it’s worthy to listen carefully ASMODEE to fully integrate their musical dominion.
Those three tracks (in fact two tracks and a noisy dark instrumental) is the continuation of ASMODEE’s previous works maybe a bit closer to the first album. Imagine a furious fusion between EMPEROR (without keyboards) and ATHEIST with a real sense of musicianship but maybe too unreachable for some people. This is the kind of stuff where you need to pay attention to really enjoy it, maybe not enough rock n’ roll but that wouldn’t fit the band anyway. The band also develops some raging dark atmospheres that can remind what DISSECTION did in the past. Get it or steal it!
