BEAST UNDERNEATH demo 2007 review

BEAST UNDERNEATH (Swe) – S/T
Demo CD – Self released
3 tracks – 13’34
Rated: 5/10

A modest demo with Xeroxed cover that doesn’t make you imagine a single minute this duo owns a certain creative potential. Not that it’s the ultimate jewel of the underground, we’re far from it, but I found rather good ideas among these three tracks. BEAST UNDERNEATH play death metal in the noblest way I would say. The 90’s death metal influence (early DEICIDE, MORBID ANGEL “Altars of madness” era) is the most prominent with a slight touch of technicality (PESTILENCE). The guitar work is tight with nice solos, common but efficient harmonies, catchy way of creating some riffs, especially the first riffs of 2nd track “Spoils of apocalypse”.
Ok, good points are said, now the things I dislike: First is the drum programming, even if well done, sounds to much plastic and kill the blasphemous vibe of the music. Secondly, I think a sharpened guitar sound may fit the music better, giving more aggressiveness, but that’s a personal taste.
For a first demo, it’s not bad at all. A better sound and the strike of a real drummer, I would bet BEAST UNDERNEATH could offer more than a simple bleeding, but a real bloodshed!
