GODLESS RISING Battle lords Review

GODLESS RISING (US) – Battle lords
CD 2007 – Moribund Records
8 tracks – 39’47
Rated: 7/10
The name of Jeff Gruslin shall not be unknown to many of you: yes the voice of VITAL REMAINS on releases like “Let us pray” and “Into cold darkness”. Paul Flynn as well took part on this record but seems to have left the band since.
What else could play a guy like Jeff but satanic death metal? If the previous release “Rising hatred” just opens the gates of hell, “Battle lords” sees the legion of hell charging towards Christians asses to blow them all away. This new album shares a lot in common with the early records of VITAL REMAINS before the band turn into a speed joke and a relentless musician’s turn-over. If the song writing reminds a lot what you can hear on “Let us pray” and “Into cold darkness” you could add “Forever underground” for the catchiness and the devilish aura. To say “Battle lords” sounds the same as the old VITAL REMAINS wouldn’t be completely right as GODLESS RISING is tempted as well by some modern ways: I talk about the kick drums which are triggered to hell and reach inhuman speed and that’s the only common point with the actual VITAL REMAINS. Where VITAL REMAINS force fed us with one hour of boring blast beats, GODLESS RISING plays more on nuances and the old school influences. And here you have a quite good satanic death metal album that early VITAL REMAINS freaks are advised to listen to.
