DEFEATED SANITY Psalms of the moribund Review

DEFEATED SANITY (Ger) – Psalms of the moribund
CD 2007 – Grindethic Records
9 tracks – 29’12
Rated: 6,5/10

I was a bit afraid about this 2nd album of DEFEATED SANITY as the promo 2005 I get initially was very good and quite chaotic sounding-wise. The band suffered from line-up change but don’t worry, if you love their previous molestation, you’ll be glad to know that DF doesn’t lose an ounce of brutality. Extremely brutal and technical, “Psalms of the moribund” follows the stream of blood of “Prelude to the tragedy”: that is to say some brutal death metal highly influenced by the actual US school and with no moment of serenity.
DF goes through every side of rhythmic carnage from ultra blasted drum parts to slamming slowdowns, fast shredding guitars, silly breaks and multiple tempos changes. The technical level has improved but in detriment to a dark touch you can find on “Prelude…”, that’s what I missed the most. It seems DF is looking to reach extremities at all cost and will probably reach the tasteless in the coming years, so beware.
All in all, an awesome brutal release showing an intense and great amount of work, a kind of fusion between DEVOURMENT and SUFFOCATION under crack. People into VISCERAL BLEEDING or SPAWN OF POSSESSION shall be pleased if they are able to bear the pig-like guttural vocals.
