SYPNOSYS Hang 'em high Review

SYPNOSYS (Fr) – Hang ‘em high
MCD 2007 – Self released
5 tracks – 25’12
Rated: 2/10
I wouldn’t have expected that SYPNOSYS would be still alive after their really disappointing previous album. The departure of their charismatic but depraved singer Ben (THE BOTTLE DOOM LAZY BAND) could have been considered as a swansong, but here they are with Christophe (guitar) taking the vocals duty.
SYPNOSYS remains faithful to their insipid thrash/death metal where the Gothenburp infection is still active. However it doesn’t started so bad with the first track “Hang ‘em high”, a thrash/death metal track quite common but efficient, a bit in what EXODUS does today even if SYPNOSYS is miles away to reach the excellence. I started to feel nauseous when the 2nd track starts to play: some cheap melodies appear here and there making me think that the process of gay-ification is imminent. The other tracks confirm my suspicion. SYPNOSYS tries to create some Swedish thrash/death and you immediately think about SOILWORK but without the clear vocals, but the most obvious influence is the actual metal fame infamously named ARCH ENEMY. SYPNOSYS tries to follow the path of ARCH ENEMY but their attempt at playing melodic thrash/death is so clumsy and predictable.
The production is quite powerful, with a crystal clear and plastic production; no doubt that SYPNOSYS lays on a great meal. Unfortunately that’s insufficient to me because the music is too mediocre and so uninspired to hope going further in our hyper saturated scene full of crappy bands releasing shits like this MCD. A wasted effort.
