ANNIHILATION demo 2007 review

ANNIHILATION (Fr) – Vision chaotique
Demo CD 2007 – Self released
5 tracks – 19’49
Rated: 5,5/10

Coming with this pro demo, the four young guys of ANNIHILATION offer 5 pieces of death metal without denying the use of melodies. It’s cool to hear a band like ANNIHILATION that didn’t follow the path of modern metal or deathcore, taking in consideration their young age.
Their way of playing death metal is rather similar to the late 90’s Swedish scene and particularly CENTINEX. They share common tastes for death metal balanced between brutality and melody, with a thrashy edge. The fact is that ANNIHILATION (a bit like CENTINEX as well) has some arguable or too foreseeable riffs or melodies.
Luckily ANNIHILATION also has some US influences more in the Floridian way, especially DEICIDE with some quicker parts or the mix of screamed and growled vocals (the guys sing in their native tongue and honestly that sound cool, maybe because it’s not too understandable).
Quite average demo but the band seems really motivated and could evolve well by increasing the brutal side and dropping the useless melodies.
