CARNEUS demo 2006 review

CARNEUS (Swe) – Carrier of diseases
Demo CD 2006 – Self released
5 tracks – 19'10
Rated: 7/10

I have been quite impressed by CARNEUS’ previous demo “Hate incarnated” (PE#3) and this third one confirms the band’s potential once again. This new release was said to be more brutal and technical and CARNEUS holds those promises.
You get hit by a smashing death metal, rather brutal with enough blast-beats to compete with US deathsters. CARNEUS is characterized by powerful and clinical riffs reminding the two last releases of TRAUMA. A modern approach of death metal for sure where the morbidity is definitively put back. CARNEUS uses melodies and thrash riffs to offer a maximum efficiency as well as traditional but welcome guitar solos. A kind of hybridization of old school elements and brutal death you can hear from their landmates of DEVIANT.
CARNEUS belongs to this new wave of modern death metal hordes but at least they don’t mix their death metal with any bastardized elements (core, electro, or whatever), so their stuff can sound “cold” or “plastic” is terms of sound production.
I think the band is now able to record a full album, only remains the choice of their musical orientation or evolution without betraying or abandoning the roots that make me enjoy their previous works.
