Looking at the cover with the goëtian goat I feared another useless raw black metal one-man project without any personality and inspiration. The only true fact is that AFFLICTIS LENTAE is a one man project but dedicated to fast and violent black metal. Don’t get mistaken by the DEAD CAN DANCE extract intro, the following is a storm of chaos, fire and hate. The sound is not bad at all, you can hear the guitar riffs in the typical brutal black metal style reminding MARDUK, DARK FUNERAL or SETHERIAL. The particularity of AFFLICTIS LENTAE is the use of slower riffs, sometimes dissonant to create cold atmospheres and sometimes more thrash or death metal oriented riffs. This proves the main man behind this warfare is not restricted to one style. The drum programming even if a bit too loud and sometimes exasperating due to some will to reach inhuman paces, strengthens the uncompromising mechanical side and should please dark souls into DIABOLICUM or ABORYM.
The demo ends up with a surprising BLACK FLAG cover (Rise above) turned into a more intense and darker version.
