If some people want a good example of the wealthy metal scene in Chile, DEMONS JAIL Zine is a well chosen entry. The editor Marcelo also plays guitar in the techno-thrash metal band PERVERTED SON, so he’s quite informed of what happens in his scene and around.
For a first issue, it’s more than encouraging as Marcelo avoid the usual beginners’ mistakes and came with a simple but clear and good looking lay-out without being clumsy. Someone putting Lemmy on his front cover is definitively someone with balls, ahaha! So let’s speak about the content where once again the editor shows his wide tastes in metal with a will to also dig the deeper pits of the underground. Bands interviewed are BRUMA, BLACK EMPIRE, SCENT OF DEATH, DENYING NAZARENE, CRUCIFIER, HELSTAR, ASESINATO, VEXED, etc… The inties without being outstanding turn out to be enjoyable especially when the guys featured are enthusiastic and have things to say (SCENT OF DEATH, ASESINATO, VASTATOR/PROFESSED for example offer some good reading) or not (BLACK EMPIRE, the black metal syndrome or the contest of the shortest answers, who knows?). The reviews section is the highlight of the zine especially for voracious and curious metalheads: Marcelo featured many reviews about South American bands & zines, I discover many unknown ones and this prove the activity of this scene. Of course you can read about more known bands & zines but in the whole this zine brings something to its potential reader in term of musical knowledge.
Some usual articles appeared as well like a live-report about TESTAMENT reunion tour, a bunch of contacts, a rip-off article (where of course this worm Paucar shows his face).
Some things can be improved (as the editor said himself) like the English although nothing bad, maybe more reviews (more death metal!!!) but for a first attempt it’s a real kick in your fat ass and a good exposure in a Chilean rag! Horns up to DEMONS JAIL Zine!
