Have a brutal night Compilation Review

Have a brutal night compilation
CD 2007 – Korpsefire Distro/ NeverHeard Distro
18 tracks – 75’07
Rated: 5/10

Beside his fanzine activity in SHRUNKEN & MUMMIFIED, Erik also heads Korpsefire Distro where he promotes worldwide underground bands. Of course with only one track per band it’s quite hard to really evaluate a band but at least it can give you an idea of how a band sounds and if it fits to your tastes or not.
SHAARIMOTH from Norway which I still know from their first album “Current 11” didn’t impress with their mid paced death metal with mystic atmospheres à la NILE, not badly done but something is missing, probably some guts.
VORKUTA from Hungary offers rather typical Norwegian black metal in the vein of SATYRICON and ULVER. A quite long and monotonous track but owning some worthy dark atmospheres without the use of shitty keyboards.
Cult Brazilian act MYSTIFIER comes with a live version of “Beelzebub” with a quite good song. Nothing more to add, this is a good surprise and a must have for fans.
I was quite curious to hear AMON DIN from Serbia but their melodic thrash/death metal is so unoriginal and wasted by those omnipresent keyboards, I think I won’t look further about them, too much melodic for me. I am afraid they will follow the melodic trend created by wealthy European bands, a real mistake according to me.
Back to the old school with AMPUTATOR from USA who certainly thinks metal is dead after the 90’s. HELLHAMMER and SODOM seemed to be influences as well as bad beer. Maybe fans of NUNSLAUGHTER could be pleased as well.
Surprisingly coming from Italy, CADAVERIC CREMATORIUM plays nice brutal death metal with grind touches. Probably influenced by EXHUMED, I think I could endure a longer release.
EK from Mexico is into some strange occult black/thrash metal with some death metal touches. Really weird sometimes because of some sounds or vocals, I am not sure. The structure of the track is unusual as well. EK is probably looking for its own personality but shouldn’t go too far in experiments if they want their music to have some unity.
KRATORNAS is the underground band that even the most ignorant metalhead shall know. The one man project has always been into chaotic black/death reminding BLASPHEMY and this new short track doesn’t change the orientation. Still uninspired and raw as fuck.
RABBATH AMON hails from Jordan might have hard times to release its music and despite the poor sound of its heavy/black metal, we can feel the guys have some abilities. Too compressed guitar sound and a fucking drum machine, but the stuff itself is not bad at all.
Primitive black/death metal from Bolivia with EXEKRATORIO. The track is quite short and chaotic and it’s hard to tell you if it sucks or not but at least nothing groundbreaking.
SILENT KINGDOM from Bosnia displays some melodic progressive and technical death metal reminding me SCHOLOMANCE, some DEATH influences are noticeable as well and you can feel the guys have a decent musicianship and are able to create epic atmospheres.
After this moment of beauty, ALFA ERIDANO AKHERNAR from Mexico gives brutality its rights back. Brutal black/death metal with merciless brutality, again wasted by those horrible fucking keyboards. Fast song with sick solos, a more bestial version of COUNCIL OF THE FALLEN.
Funny name for ORIFICE from Italy, but the joke doesn’t stop here as musically their tribal death metal (I wonder if I can name this shit death metal!) with awful drum machine and muddy guitar sound deserves only to die in the nearest swamps as ORIFICE sucks to death.
Their landmates from BEYOND THE RAGE, even if not much inspired with their thrashcore, plays their stuff well but their production lacks of some punch.
EMPHERIS is not unknown to me. The Polish thrashers added some clear vocals in their 80’s thrash. Rather classic stuff into the old SLAYER/SODOM vein.
In Hungary, there are obviously some good bands but CORPSEROT is not one of them. Their noisy grind/gore is a real boredom and is closer than an active jackhammer than any musical release.
AQUER from Chile has released some worthy black/thrash material but I didn’t know this track before. The sound is average and I am disappointed by this track as I have heard better things coming from AQUER.
The compilation ends with Hungarian AGE OF AGONY and their war dedicated death metal. Here we have a slow doomy track with a majestic vibe. Unusual death metal song with some BOLT THROWER influences and the voice reminds Chris Barnes. Not bad.
