MASTABAH is a rather new band who released a demo a few years ago but I didn’t listen to it and cannot give you comparisons with this MCD. This is the new project of ex-members of DARK LEGION who released 2 albums on Dead Sun Records. So the guys are quite experienced in playing death metal.
MASTABAH is playing ultra fast brutal death metal, so fast I wonder if there are other bands able to be as fast as them except maybe outfits like MENTAL HORROR, BRODEQUIN or ORIGIN. The pace is so inhuman in the blasting parts that it’s more the sound of a machinegun (triggered to death!). Fortunately you don’t suffer from blast beats during 21 minutes long. Their music is some modern brutal death metal with many repetitive parts (Slave of evil) reminding THE BERZEKER sometimes although some slower guitar riffs appears to create some dark moods in the vein of MORBID ANGEL (Black veil).
In fact, the format of “Purity” is just perfect as I don’t think I could endure more than half an hour of such drum pounding. How the band will remain interesting on the next releases is the possible challenge for MASTABAH.
