RéSISTANCE demo 2007 review

RESISTANCE (Fr) – S/T
Demo CD 2007 – Self released
8 tracks – 36’09
Rated: 5,5/10

Back to the old days!!! This is the new band of Nathaniel Colas (ex-BLOODY SIGN and editor of Mutilating Process Zine). Grab your patched-jacket and get all the beers from the fridge for a lesson of metal. RESISTANCE is a heavy/thrash outfit that pat tribute to the 80’s/early 90’s, the NWOBHM, the early thrash metal and the obscure heavy metal bands.
Real metal that stinks beer and sweat and which means shouted hymns, raised fists and headbanging. If you don’t know what I am talking about don’t read further and shoot yourself down quickly please.
I can’t say I am a specialist of heavy thrash era, but various names like MERCYFUL FATE, DESTRUCTION, SLAUGHTER, MEGADETH, METALLICA and their early recording are a part of the essence of RESISTANCE’s music.
The demo sound as well has this vintage perfume which is not so bad except for the drums which are sometimes covered by the rest of the instruments. Of course we’re far from the crystal clear production which wouldn’t fit the band anyway but that’s a quite decent demo for someone not too much expecting as I am.
Nathaniel vocals are the most unusual I have ever heard: low vocals sometimes quite aggressive, not always tight but you use to listen to it after several listening.
RESISTANCE has in mind the way that creating catchy tracks so how could you resist to bang your head on “I hate”, “Bang your fucking skull” or “F.F.V” except if you are tetraplegical hippie.
For having seen the band live twice, I can tell you this is definitively the band’s favourite ground with a lot of energy, dedication and attitude. A full album is going to be released (maybe it’s even ready now!) so watch out.
